The dependency trap

Asking AI to do your homework produces the assignment but not the learning. You feel productive while your actual skills stand still. Exams, interviews, and real work eventually reveal the gap.

Workflows that make you smarter

Explain-back: read the material yourself first, then ask the AI to quiz you on it. Answer from memory, and let it correct you. This is active recall — the single most effective study technique known.

The confused-student method: when you don't understand something, don't ask for the answer. Describe your confusion: 'I understand X but I don't see why Y follows.' The targeted explanation you get back is worth ten generic ones.

Draft, then compare: write your own answer or essay first, then ask the AI to write one, and compare. You'll see immediately what yours is missing — structure, evidence, clarity.

Source-checking for research: ask for counterarguments to your thesis, ask what evidence would disprove your claim, and always verify citations yourself — models sometimes invent references.
